Position: Chainbreaker Collective is seeking to hire a full-time, Communications Organizer.
Ideal start date: May 1, 2021. Will remain open until filled.

About Chainbreaker Collective
Chainbreaker Collective (Chainbreaker) is a membership led economic and environmental justice organization based in Santa Fe, NM. We have over 700 dues paying members in Santa Fe, the bulk of whom are low-income people of color and who live in neighborhoods facing disinvestment and risk of gentrification. Since 2004, Chainbreaker has engaged in community
organizing to win real, concrete victories and build lasting power for our base. Chainbreaker focus on the issues of transportation and housing with policy campaigns and through our Bicycle Resource Center project. Chainbreaker’s work centers racial and economic justice and builds our
leadership based on our organizing principles.
Position Summary:
External organizational communications are critical to growing our base of allies and funders. The communications organizer reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for amplifying Chainbreaker’s messaging via social and traditional media, publications and newsletters, as well as supporting leaders and community members with public speaking and outreach scripts. Chainbreaker leans heavily into collective leadership, workload and decision making. All staff members are expected to fully participate as a team, share input and insights, and support other staff members in their assignments when possible. All Chainbreaker staff members have specific focuses, however, we view our work as holistic and resist “siloing” of staff. The communications organizer will need to be keep apprised of both the internal organizational work as well as public discourse related to our issues. The communications organizer should be prepared to work directly with members and leaders as necessary. The communications organizer will be expected to manage their own time to meet their assignments and problem solve whenever possible. Due to the nature of community organizing, the communications organizer should expect to work non-traditional hours. Chainbreaker is willing to work with the right candidate to accommodate any logistical and scheduling needs whenever possible. This position will require both at-home and in-person work, however, the health of staff members is our top concern, and any in-person work will be informed by COVID-safe protocol and personal comfort levels.


Verbal and written Spanish/English bilingual.

Excellent public speaking and writing skills.

Good communication, organizational and multitasking skills.

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and oversight.

Familiarity with social media networks, including trends, developments, and shifts.

Basic computer and office skills.

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position. Chainbreaker is committed to a progressive salary structure that values commitment and length of service. The base salary for all new Chainbreaker hires is $40,000. Chainbreaker offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package including 100% medical, dental and vision insurance, employee-matched 401k retirement plan as well as sick and vacation PTO.
